چکیده

1. INTRODUCTION Geographic Information Systems (GIS) provide well-developed tools for query, analysis and display of point, line, and polygon data, and there are well-developed communities that use these data types and rely heavily on GIS tools. Many meteorological datasets consist of combinations of time series and grids. Tools for query, analysis and display of these data types are less well developed in the geospatial community. Developing approaches to integrating these datasets into GIS is a critical step toward bridging the gap between science data and GIS. We describe our experience with three approaches that cover the spectrum of geospatial systems from desktops to distributed geodatabases.

A spatiotemporal data model for river basin-scale hydrologic systems

Despite a long history of synergy, current techniques for integrating Geographic Information System (GIS) software with hydrologic simulation models do not fully utilize the potential of GIS for modeling hydrologic systems. Part of the reason for this is a lack of GIS data models appropriate for representing fluid flow in space and time. Here we address this challenge by proposing a spatiotempo...

Application of functions Fuzzy Logic and Geographic Information System (GIS) to Determination Potential Areas of Fish of Choghakhor International Wetland

With the increasing use of water resources, increasing population, urbanization, identification and conservation of aquatic ecosystems have received much attention. To this end, researchers consider the use of remote sensing techniques and GIS to be appropriate and efficient. In this study, habitat susceptibility of fish to the Choghakhor wetland in the central plateau of Iran was investigated....

What about people in geographic information science?

Geographic information systems (GIS) are convenient and potentially powerful platforms for transportation and urban analysis. Most GIS-based tools for transportation and urban analysis continue a place-based representation that is increasingly ill-suited to answer important questions in theory, policy and practice. The increasing disconnection between people and places means that a people-based...

Geographic Automata Systems: A New Paradigm for Integrating GIS and Geographic Simulation

Geographic simulation is concerned with automata-based methodologies for simulating discrete, dynamic, and action-oriented spatial systems, combining cellular automata and multi-agent systems in a spatial context. In this paper, we propose a paradigm for integrating GIS and geosimulation into what we term Geographic Automata Systems (GAS), the latter fusing the two into full-blown, symbiotic sy...
